    Hello troops.

Looking to treat myself to a multitool when I get back.

    Looking at the Leatherman Blast

Or the Victornox Swisstool Rescue & Survival

Anyone got any experience of these finely engineered instruments?

It's taken me hours to whittle the massive range down to these two.

    TIA.

I don't get these things at all.

They are a bit flimsy and don't work very well.

Far better to carry a small tool roll with the proper tools in.

If it is for hiking or biking then the best tool you can carry in my mind is a mobile phone !

Lads at work either use leatherman or Gerber. Handy but no point spending a shed load on the most expensive 1s

i use a leatherman ti, the very expensive titanium one, and it really is good. the blades are scarily sharp, and the overall finish is superb.

When your in the middle of nowhere and there is no signal and you have a huge granite boulder on your leg......the phone wont help you amputate your leg will it?

I would go for the Victorinox ...I do have a cheap Leatherman copy that I won and my only fault with it is that its heavy

I've been selling these for years. I don't think their is a "best" one. It's just personal choice. I find that whenever I need mine in an emergency, I've left it at home.

I own a blast. Would buy one again. Not really sure what else there is to say about them! It spends just as much time at my desk in work than it does in my rucksack as its kinda handy to have in the office also!

Well thats it really isn't it. It won't be used for the regular stuff it'll only be for the "Wish I had one of them multitool" times that come around every now and then.

I'm still undecided, might check them out in the flesh.

Not had experience of the specific tools but I've had leatherman and victornix in the past and preferred leatherman (felt better put together externally). Only problem was that the leatherman had a locking blade and therefore not really legal to carry around.
Having said that, they're both well put together bits of kit so no matter which you choose you've going to have something that will last.

Im not so sure about the legal standing, yes it has a locking mechanism, but it would depend on the mannerism in which you are using it.

Tradesmen have a whole arsenal of sharp/ offensive weapons (tools) but they are exempt from the knife law providing that it is being used to effect their duties.

As a hiker I would suggest it is perfectly reasonable to carry a multi tool. so long as it is in its pouch when not in use.

Does anyone have any definitive answer?
