    Hi Guys
Looked in the Haynes manual but surprise surprise doesn't tell you how to remove the trims.

I have a 2005 1.9 Highline with the chrome trims along the doors, are they just stuck on if so what sort of job is it to remove them I have a feeling they will get a bit damaged on removal.

Just really want to know if they are stuck on or held by clips.

I believe they are the same as the other trims. Glued on with central lugs to push in and line them up. To remove heat carefully with hot air blower. You can't really refit them as they get ruined taking them off.

I agree, budget for replacements as they stretch and bend.

    Why are you removing them?

A de-chrome project or are they milky ?

If they are milky, then they will polish up if you use the right stuff.

I had this on my old B5.5 Passat and on my current A6, both had milky chrome (in fact it is aluminium) and is a very common problem if acidic cleaners are used.

Polishing them up takes a fair bit of effort but is certainly easier and cheaper than renewing them.

Normal polishes will not touch it though, you need to use (like I did) something like Faracla G6 then G3 then Autosol. And a good bit of elbow grease.

Once brought back to shiny, regular waxing will maintain them that way.

The centre trim on the door costs nearly £50 from VW, they come as the trim and moulding (which comes unpainted).
