Hi the cam belt snapped on my 2001 115bhp tdi taking six valves with it. These have been replaced the head put back on & all was running ok but the car developed a stuttering in 5th & 6th gear when warmed up & under load or going up hill. I found that the cam sensor appeared faulty through vag com which was replaced. Now the car still stutters but not as bad. i put it back on vag com & it still showed the fault, i cleared the fault now the car shows no faults but still stutters in 4th! Can someone please help? Could it be the sensor is still not reading the cam properly? I read somewhere it could be the cam pully but is this the same as the tensioner? could it be that? however this was replaced at the same time as the belt.

    The fault was : 19463 camshaft position sensor (G40) No signal P3007 - 35 - 10 ---- intermittant.

I too wondered if the timing was out .
I originally thought i had the cam 180 degrees out, I rechecked the timing & ensured everything was lined up. The crank was locked in position. The cam lined up with the pointer and a drill bit inserted. Then when belt was on the engine was manually turned over a few times & the pointer from the cam was just pointing to the bottom between the guides on the head. I i would have tried to get closer to the centre but then i would have had to move a tooth which was way to much.i got all the data from autodata.

ok but this is not a constant fault, i noticed today it only happens between 2000 & 3000 rpm where it seems first of all flat then stutters then picks up. It is also difficult to start, where before it would turn over straight away. could the glow plugs have been damaged when the belt went? Could it also be the tappets need adjusting where they have been replaced or one of the injectors. I noticed when i put it back together one was a bit of centre. Do they need to be lined up exactly?
It's one of those faults where i'm looking into everything... & doubting all i did....

it could be an injector fault on a pd engine if one loses pressure then it wont start very well, but they tend not to start when the engine is hot as well, the tappetts are hydraulic so no way to adjust them.the injectors need to be in line or they can come loose, have you tried resetting the injectors ?
