I will love that too, Something that can work as the same as the interior light works, SO you can open the doors and the footwell lights light up. Has anyone else attempted this?

I saw this post the other day and thought "hey cant be that hard" so set to work .

Now the door pins on the slam panel(that tell your current light to come on is a switched earth(out is on and in is off)
so i ran 2 cables from each door pin on the switched side(otherwise i would have a permanent earth duh) along the sill panels and into the kick panels.I then ran a permanent live (with inline fuse) from the radio area as i had a spare and ran them to either side then attatchede 2 neon white lights i had spare which are meant for modding computers but they all run on 12v so thats ok,and mounted them underdash in each footwell.

All in all it was a piece of **** and took 20-30mins max.Now when i open the door on either side the switched earth kicks in and on pop my lights!

However unfortunatly i work nights so ive not managede to see the bloody things work in the dark yet!grrrrrrrr

    Here ya go.

Right this is how i did it.Im working on a 3door here but if you have a 5 door just adapt my instructions it wont be much different.

1)Locate your door pins these are on the latch side of the door on the pillar.

2)To get to the wires at the back you need to take the long plastic kick plate that runs on top of your sill, its really just a pop off affair.

3)Next on my model(3dr) you have to take 3 posi screws out the back panel and one clip at the bottom and lift up and away from the back window slightly, this will give you enough room to get your hand into the back of the door pin and retrieve the wiring..

4)Your now faced with a 3pin plug.On my model(1994 1.8Driver)the wire i needed was solid green with a purple stripe going through it.It is an earth but to make sure just test it.

Heres how to do it:Kepp the plug on the back of the door pin and fetch a multimeter, find a permanent positive feed and attach your multimeter to it(i ran a bit of wire from the battery to save fannying about)Now working from the right of the back side of the plug keep trying the negitive of your multimeter until you get a reading, now push the door pin in and make sure that the reading does away.Hey ho you have found your switched earth.

5)Next you need to connect a length of cable that is long enough to reach from your door pin to under your dash, measure it out rough and cut it.Now feed the cable through to the front of the car like you would do a speaker wire(dont use speaker wire though duur)

6)Repeat to the other side of the car then replace all trim and crap you took to bits. You should now be left with 2 switched earth wires running from your door pins to the front of your car.

7)Find a permenant live somewhere near the front of your car this can either be the brown stereo wire or you can splice into the one that goesto your fag lighter. Now attach this to the posi side of whatever lights you are going to be fitting,i used some cold cathode tubes like whats in my post above but you can choose what you like.
Make sure that if it is fused somewhere along the lines.

8)Now join both earths that you have run from the door pin switches and connect them together along with the negative to your lights.

9)Now locate your lights where you want,i used some super double sticky pads that came with my tubes and stuck them in each foot well under the dash out of sight and out of the way of numpties kicking them.If your putting spot type lights in the kick panels then adapt your wiring to suit.

10)Tidy the wiring up with tie wraps or whatever you prefer to use.

11)Show off to your mates as you open your car door on EITHER side and bask in the exciting warm glow of colourful or just plain bright footwell lights.

Pics to follow of finished item as i never took any while i was doing it
