Car is a late 97 2.8 quattro saloon (first of that shape) and fluid is loeaking from the drivers side rear caliper. I've traced it to the seal which is between the caliper body and handbrake mechanism (cable operated).

I managed to source a full rebuild kit which contains every single rubber piece to rebuild the caliper but I have a couple of questions.

Firstly, in order to get the piston out can I remove the caliper and wind it out using the winding tool I have or do I need to leave it on the car and pump it out using the brake pedal?

Secondly, does anyone have an exploded diagram of the caliper?

Thirdly, Is there anything I need to watch for?

And finally, are there any other special tools I need? From looking at it I don't think so but I'd like to be sure.

    Thanks

Hi mate, fairly easy to do, you can unwind it after you have removed it, and you dont need any special tools, just apply a little rubber grease on seals when refitting new one's. have fun!!

Thanks Steve. Being able to remove the caliper while it's off the car will make the job a lot easier.

    Cheers

Inspect the seal surfaces of the caliper and the banjo very, very carefully if necessary reface and polish them and refit with copper washers. These washers should be anealed and no more than 1mm thick. Regards Peter
