My 2006 140 passat has got exactly the same problem. I have taken it to my local VW garage who checked it on their diagnostic equipment and told me that my car needed a new wiring loom for the turbo pressure sensor. I have been quoted over 300 pounds, which includes 4 hours labour, which seems excessive to me.

This problem seems to be coming up quite a lot lately, I posted mine on here a while ago. Told by VW it needed a new turbo at £1748 .
I just pull over, turn ignition off then on and all's well again, except the cruise doesn't then work for a few miles afterwards - just get an exclamation mark where the digital speed is displayed.
Far from ideal, but my new car is on order and my boss won't pay to fix this one.

I've had the RAC out, but when they plug their diagnostics in there's never any fault recorded, as it seems to reset itself after ignition off/on.

Just to update this thread, I finally took mine to a VW dealer to get the code read.

He said it was an 'overboost' problem, and after further testing they decided the Air Mass Metre was faulty and needed replacing.

Since having this sorted, the issue has not reappeared.

    Not yet, anyway.......

I suppose this sort of thread goes to show that the question `what does the xxxx display mean specifically` doesnt have a simple answer as it appears to depend on the code behind it. So far the coil light coming on here has been diagnosed as:
    wiring loom £300 inc labour
    new turbo £1748
    Air Mass Meter
    Speed sensor
Shame every repair doesnt incl a printout of the code. Hopefully it would show these 4 fault had different codes. ??
I am always curious about these wiring loom replacements. What goes wrong with the wiring loom? Burns out due to heat or over current, connector fail? Looms used to be reliable till you messed with them and then it was usually at or near the connectors.

When I got "Emissions Garage" on the MFD the fault was a failed barometric pressure sensor. Replacement involved a loom (how big or small I know not) so I would guess the sensor in question is an integral part of a particular loom. This is maybe aimed at reducing the number of potentially troublesome connectors.
