Hi All, First post on a great site. I'm hoping to return to the VW fold after a number of years. At present I'm looking at an 09 Passat which I believe has a RCD310 head unit with an aux input under the armrest.

What is the easiest way to have a large number of MP3 music tracks available using this head unit's controls and display?
Should I be asking for the glovebox 6cd changer (I think as an option this costs £260??), or can I get a cable to power and control an IPOD?

I'm not big on in car entertainment, just want more than one CD's worth of music at my fingertips (mp3 or audio).

Sorry if this repeats an existing thread, but having spent some time looking I cannot find a straight answer.

    Cheers.

The best way of acheiving that is either with the MDI system or a Dension Gateway system. The MDI only allows the connection of one unit at a time where the Dension Gateway 300 allows Aux in, iPod and USB input (hard disc/pen drive) to be connected all the time and the source selection made on the RCD310.

If you'd like any more info or pricing on the Dension units please let me know.

    Thanks Shark,
So if I get this right, the MDI interface will allow me to plug in a USB stick with my music on, and pick tracks via the head unit?
One car I have seen already had an aux in fitted under the arm rest. I didn't notice any USB connections. Is there a factory fitted option like this, or can I assume that the USB connection will also be present.

(Thanks for your reply, at least I know a little more about what to ask/look for)

Yes the MDI or the Dension will allow you to connect a USB stick and navigate through it/play via the head unit.

Not sure how the options lists works with regards to Aux/MDI and their availability together or seperately I'm afraid.
