Intermittent suspension noise on A6

Have just been back from very friendly helpful independant garage but....... the problem is an intermittent thud or knocking which seems to be triggered by varying the weight shift on the front e.g going round a bend or a bump in the road. I still can't work out whether its coming from the front or back or both. Have just had the "c" links replaced and this noise has appeared. Garage has had car up on lift and checked but nothing visibly loose. Garage suggests monitoring it but i'm paranoid. The car is on a 54 plate, the new A6 2.0TDI and just done 147,000 miles. Any suggestions helpful people ?

i also have A6. it has a knocking noise coming from beneath the car but like you i cant make it out wether its the front or the back. i had it checked over a period of time by 3 garages and all came up with nothing. they said its not visible and its not dangerous as we have checked the important bits, so there advice was carry on driving it untill the problem becomes more apparent hopeing the problem will show it self up.
it seem like a lot of people have difficulty locateing this unseen knocking noise, so im hopeing someone might have a idea what it might be.

It was not detrimental to the car but it is something to do with the front suspension links or bushes which are worn but not visible without detaield inspection (I seem to recall the parts were about £100) They spotted this when they were replacing the clutch but ordinarily the problem is not visible when you look under the car. They did say they would sort it out next time is is being serviced which will be the end of this month.
The garage I use is Ashbrow Garage, Huddersfield, who are very helpful people. Will find out at the end of this month.

I have a knocking noise over sharp bumps and corners, particularly now the roads are so bad with potholes. I have had on O/S front corner;
front drop links replaced,
front 'bent arm' replaced,
new brakes
new shocker

All to no avail. Still knocking. I would love to get rid of this noise. I just wonder if it might be a sub-frame mounting problem???

It was the worn bushes on the anti roll bar mounts.,

I've just has the bushes on the anto roll bar mounts replaced and this has done the trick

I will get those checked when it goes in again for further investigation. They think that it is something to do with the sliding mechanism that the calipers have. i will pass on anything that I discover!
