Have a 99 2.4 SE. After sitting for a week whilst on holiday the remote key fob either does not work or only works within 12 inches of the drivers door lock area. I have tried replacing the batterys in the remote (bought from main dealer) and have tried resynchronising using method in owners manual and a method detailed on this forum. Any ideas?

try to clean the battery contact points in the remote with some cleaning alcohol/contact cleaner.

If you can check the soldering points also (you will need good eyesight!) to make sure ther is no obvious bad conections.

I have no idea why it makes a difference, but try holding the remote right next to your head - for some reason (as demonstrated by Clarkson on Top Gear), it increases the range dramatically. I tried it and it works. Weird...

I don't think I have any police etc. nearby, but have read that it can sometimes be wireless doorbells so will investigate. Also my van remote didnt work this morning or this evening but worked whilst out and about today. I feel a scooby doo investigation coming on.
