Garages should have their franchise taken off them if they behave like this.

The dealer hasn't rectified items to a satisfactory condition, but most of those defects would have been there during the final quality inspection at Wolfsburg, so quality standards aren't good enough.

I assume you had to confirm to the DVLA you never took delivery, hence the dealership can remove you from the V5 records and claim the car as new again. They may register it as a demonstrator to allow the dust to settle !

With cash in hand there will always be some showroom cars out there, ring VW CS and see if they can assist in finding a car of similar or better spec.

That's a fair comment - definitely write to the respective CEO's and include all your written communications with the dealer.

Who knows what might happen, but at least it won't be hidden as a 'local issue!'

    Good luck,

    Pete

Yeah, it's definitely VW's fault that the car was in such a bad way originally, although the dealer should have picked it up before delivery. The problem with the dealer began when they failed twice to deal with the problems, often making things worse in the process.

I'm not sure what they'll do with it. I just filled out the "transfer to dealer" section on the V5 (the yellow bit), so I guess I'll be listed as the 1st owner even though I never actually sat in the car!

Doing a quick search on autotrader, there are some dealers listing mk6s with 5000 miles on the clock for more than I was paying, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if they went down the demonstrator route as they're unlikely to make a loss doing that.

Just read through this thread and it sounds like you've had a bit of a nightmare.

Complain to Milton Keynes about your car, although expecting to jump the queue for another is unlikely.

Among the forums is a thread on the Eos we had problems with, although VW eventually did exchange the car,we still had to wait in the system for it to be built.

I'd personally write to VW in Germany too, because even though they may refer you to Milton Keynes it may highlight the problem where it matters. It also means Milton Keynes cannot sweep it under the carpet.

Well, that's my brief foray into Volkswagen cars curtailed... I saw a really nice RX8 at the weekend and put a deposit down. Still under 10,000 miles on the clock with an 08 plate and I paid over substantially less than I was spending on the Golf. Although I have no doubts that I'll be paying more than that in higher tax, insurance and fuel costs over the coming years, but reckon with the price difference I'll still break even over the next two years...

Still haven't got around to writing to VW yet as I wasn't sure what I actually wanted to achieve by doing that. Maybe I still will, but I've kind of lost interest now. As an aside, I noticed that the dealer put the Golf on sale for £2,000 more than I was supposed to be buying it for and it's now sold, so hopefully it's new owner haggled substantially and isn't going to look at the paintwork too thoroughly.

Anyway, I guess I'm probably leaving for good, but thought I should say that it was good to spend some time on this forum and join the community for a while. Enjoy your shiny new Golfs as and when they arrive and hope you all have more luck than I did...

    Over and out...

Glad you have found a resolution with VW, hopefully the Mazda will be better presented !

Don't forget to carry spare oil and check the level once a week - those RX8s eat oil !
