  1. Transporter t5 problem

Hi, I am a new member and I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask a question.I have aT5 130 Transporter that has had a problem from new.The fault only occurs after the van has been running for a couple of hours. When I come to a stop the van feels like it is running over rumble strips, and it seems to misfire on light throttle but clears after 10 minutes or so.It also gives off a strange smell when this happens,It has been into the dealer on two occasions but they cant find a fault.Does anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks

Well you are not alone. I have the same fault word for word ( search T5 judder on this forum). My T32 2.5 is going to the dealer tomorrow for it's 19! visit with this fault. They still don't know what it is so i can't help you,but if I do ever get it fixed,I'll let you know.

Personally I think it's something electronic, a bad earth or something , that under
the right temp/moisture gives a bad contact and sends something do-lally.

Do your headlights flicker when it's doing it? Mine do! Cool! Let me know how you get on.

Oh before I forget, they may suggest it's the DPF regenerating, but I've had my van plugged into the computer when the fault was happening and it wasn't the DPF doing it's thing.

If it helps, my van is at West Yorkshire van Centre, and VW technical know all about it and are currently trying to help, so it maybe worth your dealership speaking to VW technical and or my dealership.

Vw always come out with "we never had anything like this before" line but you're the forth person I've spoken to with this problem, and like yourself, all have taken their vans to VW. VW obviously have a very poor system for reporting faults.

Thanks for the info.I passed your suggestions onto the dealer. The van came back with no fault showing. They say I have to bring the van back in as the fault occurs. This is my fourth try with this dealer, I might try another independant garage. Are you having any luck?

My vans still at the garage, no word as yet.

Oh dear you're in the land of "bring it in when it's doing it" yeah like it happens just as you are passing the dealers! I've had mine in the dealers twice whilst it was happening, and they found it was misfiring and the other time "odd readings" on the computer, but they still can't get to the bottom of the fault.

I'll let you know either way. Good luck.

Thanks for that,If I have any luck with the problem I will let you know.Maybe your 20th visit to the dealer might make them realise you have a real problem that should be investigated at a higher level. We should all get together and e-mail the head of the commercial division of VW UK.

Sounds like a good idea, any idea how we find out the guys email address?
Infact any idea how we find out the contact details for the head of VW UK and World wide?

I might start a new thread and ask the question.

Ive had the same from new.
It only happens at very low throttle.
30mph in 4th is a pain in the ripper.
I have found that not using supermarket fuel helps, and getting it chipped stops it completely.
My vw contact says it a mapping fault.......
