Warm Start A4 Problem!!

I have a 1996 A4 tdi, and for a while now every time i start the engine from warm it revs up to about 2000 for few seconds then drops to normal, and an orange coil light flashes on the dash and there seems to be power loss in the engine. Any ideas???? Thanks

yea, bought vag-com cable and it found the fault straight away...
fuel shut off solenoid! good luck!

Funny old world - I have this exact problem with my Rover 220 SDi. The garage that diagnosed it said I'd need a new fuel pump, at a cost of nearly £1000.


I started looking for a new car, and found myself here... .

can i just start by thanking everyone who posts there info and questions as it helps me to save a lot of money although somtimes worry unnesicerily. THANKS.

any way i have a p reg a4 avant 1.9 tdi and had the same problem in every way took it to my friendly garage mithchels garage in saltny chester . and put his computer on it came back with a fault code and after a little searching came back with fule cut off solenoid, part was replaced and all has been perfect since its been about 2 weeks now . my bill came to £40.00

i do know him well but it means that the part cant cost more than £20.00 GBP.

the solenoid is located on the top of the fuel pump it has one black wire bolted to the top . it only took 10 mins .
i hope this helps someone as other Q&A have helped me
