    Hello all,

Need help for my dear old dad, he has a Audi 80 2.6 Mreg and is worried

about a recent fault. On starting the car, sometimes he has no lights, he

switches the car off then on and they work? Today he said the indicators

wouldnt work but was eventually fixed by again switching the car off and

on. He has spoken to a local garage but as its intermittent fault they dont

really wont to know. Have searched on here and found what could be a

similar fault with a passat - ignition or load relay?

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Cheers

Maybe an ignition switch fault ?

I had an 'interesting' problem one night with my previous Audi when driving home in the dark one night, the dipped lights stopped working . After initial panic I found that the Full beam was still okay and had to drive home on Full beam - good job there were no other cars about. After investigation the next day, this turned out to be a faulty ignition switch. I bought one from Euro Car Parts and fitted it - it wasn't too difficult or expensive.

I'm thinking that your switching on/off the ignition is making it work again temporarily ?

    Hope that this helps,
    Bob

I was asked about a similar problem yesterday, a friend with a '92 2.3 coupe had the indicators, heater, headlights all go off while the car was parked idling. Switching off then restarting fixed it. I thought an ignition switch fault but the car was running at the time so would this have killed the engine too?
I told him to replace the ignition switch anyway, £16 from our local parts supplier.

Well just to update, unhelpful as it is, but it seems for now at least a good

squirt of WD40 has done the trick!

Its been a few months now and touch wood all is ok.

Total result for the old fella.

    cheers for all the help
