I have an A6 Avant 1.9TDi CVT 05 Plate. The last of the old style body. I should like to activate DRL on this vehicle as other drivers frequently cannot see me!! I am also an ex Volvo driver!!! The car must have been available in other countries where DRL are manatory?
Can the DRL option be activated by my main dealer? I note that in the A5 forum it appears to be possible to access the ECU and change bytes and bits.

I believe this can only be coded/activated on the newer A6 chassis (4F) in central electrics, not available in your A6 (if it is a 4B Chassis) perhaps a wiring mod is available?

I think i saw on here somewhere that if you use vagcom to change the country code in the instrument control module to canada then your side lights come on with the ignition.
If i remember right i think that changes the way the date and time displays on your clock too though.

Below is the link to the rosstech page.
I'll try changing it myself and see if the sidelights come on automatically.

It just turned on one of those irrating US type door open warnings
and changed the door open display from showing the right thand door open to show the left hand one open instead but no lights

Many thanks for the information. I can confirm that it is a 4B chassis. Surely this car was also m ade for the Swedish or other market where DRL are mandatory!

Thanks aslo for trying the Canadian mode, I hope you've now got it back to normal with the right door recognised!

I hope that someone may have a simple mod - please keep looking chaps!!

    Regards
    Robert

I Know on the Passat the side lights (DRL's) don't come on until the handbrake is released!! did you take it a run?

No i didnt...i just started the car up....i'll try it again at the weekend and try some of the other country codes too.

even if the canadian country code worked I think i would prefer to manually turn on the sidelights rather than listen to the bong bong bong bong bong whenever you opened the door with the key in the ignition.

I agree if it actaually works it is not worth it,

It shouldn't bong as the key is in the ignition unless you physicaly switch the side lights on and open the door (passanger door!!), as the driver door thinking it is the passanger door and vise versa would lead to many problems so its probably not worth it. . It would be very confusing if the doors are the wrong way around and would lead to unussual scenarios!!

    Andy

    EDIT:
    It will bong!!
just read your last post about the annoying US type door open Chime, now i get it!!

Why not just turn your sidelights on when you get in to the car?
