How do you guys justify your choice between a 3 and 5 dr?
I have already ordered my car and changed from a 3 to a 5 dr and now I feel like changing it back to a 3dr.
gone for white, ACC, 18's, 510+dyno, camera, lux, storage, tyre indicator.
    gotta wait til xmas though.....

For me it's not 'justification' it's simply a matter of practicality.
We had a 3dr in the house once, and will never again as we need easy passenger access/egress and often put mountain bikes in back and hence need easy access when packing / unloading. If you don't; and prefer the 3 dr looks, then go for what suits you.

For me it's a no brainer. Why, apart from alleged 'looks' improvement, that I don't happen to agree with, would you have a car with limited access to those rear seats? It's a 5dr hatchback every time for me.

I would imagine resale would be better for a 5 door also ?

If you want a 3 door, get a Scirocco !

Because the 3 door is about £600 cheaper?!

    We've ordered a 3 door because:
    a. I personally think it looks better (as a GT model).
    b. Because having kids that now have their own cars, only my wife or myself (or both) will be the only occupants for 99.9% of the time that the car is used.
    c. It is cheaper - why pay for two extra doors that you are never going to use? we buy a car that suits our purpose - not to increase the resale value!

At the end of the day, it comes down to what you prefer - if you only need two doors, get that one. On the other hand, if I was a family man with small children, it would have to be the 5 door. Decisions, decisions!

And this matters when you are spending in excess of probably £19,000?

Another reason why I'd never have a 3dr car is that the doors are much longer and it can make exiting from the car very difficult, if the car is garaged. The doors, being larger, will mean that it can only open so far leaving only limited space through which the exit the passenger's or driver's seats. Difficult to put into words but you might see what I mean.

I ordered a 3 door, because I don't need the easier access of the 5 door at this point in my life, and I prefer the look of the 3 door. Oh, and it's cheaper.
