i have a passat 2003 130tdi. had drains cleared 2 months ago at independents as water was getting into drivers footwell (passenger front and rear were dry).

This morning after heavy rain rear drivers footwell is wet. looks like its from the warm air vent under drivers seat.

Can water get in anywhere else other than the bulkhead at drivers side???

i know about plenums etc and the door seals look fine. i dont have a sunroof either so not there.

Any clues?? surely the drain holes cant be blocked again after 2 months??

like i said when i poke a finger into the warm air vent under the driver seat, there is defiantely some wetness.

    any advice would be great..

    Thanks in advance guys

I had a wet drivers footwell, checked and cleared the usual, battery drain holes, pollen filter, heater exchange, none of these it was the metal seal inside the door, water dripped down over the plastic trim and into footwell(had to sit in car foer1 hour during heavy rain to notice this) pouring water over the door with hose did not reveal it, sealed the metal seal with a GOOD quality clear mastic, no problems since. See attached Pics. hope this helps.hod.

Have VW rerouted the plenum chamber drain?

they can clear it every week till the cows come home, but until they reroute it will carry on happening!

When I fitted new front speakers, I too noticed water drip marked around the edge of the shiny metal door inserts. It hasn't caused wetness, but evidence it is not 100% water tight.

Just wondering whether your crossing of the fingers worked out?

I noticed this morning that my rear drivers footwell is damp/wet, but front drivers and passengers, and rear passengers, are all 100% dry. Dampness is definitely at its worst around the a/c vent under the drivers seat, but not sure if this is just because it could be the lowest point.

Is there a definitive answer to what causes the dampness around the vent?

Weird thing is that I had this rear drivers footwell dampness problem with my previous car (Mondeo) and it was the window seal. Very odd that the only dampness problem in my Passat is in the same area, but seemingly caused by a different problem!

since i had the bungs removed the wetness in the rear footwell (offside) has gone. Recently there has been so much rain up here in Hull that im hoping its been tested well.

i still get a little in the drivers footwell but noting too bad.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers
