Passat Gear Selection Stiff

The gear selection on my 2001 130SE TDi Passat has suddenly gone stiff to the point where selectong reverse or first with the engine running is almost impossible. If you switch the engine off and engage the desired gear then start the engine it's Ok

Could it be external to the gearbox, remote linkage adjustment or inside the box? Any ideas any one?

Sounds like the clutch is dragging.
Try bleeding the clutch slave cylinder.

i have the same, what did you discover was the problem. i had a new slave cylinder at 60k now 104k,
please let me know,

hi - it turned out to be a collapsed thrust bearing. So new bearing and new clutch whilst it was all apart. Clutch is ice and light now and no drag with gear selection swet as a nut!
