Is VAGCOM required when replacing the wiper motor ? Audi have diagnosed the motor faulty as it drives up to the vertical, moves or pulses 4 or 5 times but moves very little, then after pushing down on the wiper stalk a few times eventually goes back down. Figure I'll get a second hand motor and fit myself rather than £300 at the dealers. Anyone done this here ?

Ok I'll answer this. No you don't need VAGCOM. After being told the wiper motor was kaput by my local dealer - WRONG, and paying £48 for this service, I stripped it out to find the motor was fine but the linkage was partially seized at both pivot points. The linkage dismantles easily, circlips holding the shafts in place. Cleaned and greased, job done. There is a procedure in Elsawin for removal which is useful. I bought a second hand motor for £45 if anyone needs one.
