Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning it, but where there is a fine + points, there will be someone eager to avoid them. I've been there, and fairly sure it's crossed the minds of every poster in this thread.

stuff happens. It's how you deal with it.
I am 100% sure that is right.

Did you actually get stopped and cautioned.

If not, basically the police are asking you to incriminate yourself.

    Best of luck.

Setting aside the sad news of the accidents involving deaths, this thread is getting interesting lol. we all speed, no1 can deny that. if u enjoy a car other that just driving from a to b then ur gonna put ur foot down, no matter how safe it is or not, evry1 speeds. no1 can do anythin bout it. jus wait til th government finally get the power to put restrictions on everyones car so they only do the speed limit in the given area that they are in, obviously im talking years and years to come, but one day it'll happen.......hopefully not in my lifetime lol

Possibly though I reckon they will just monitor your speed and the first you will know about it is a letter through the post. They can't do without all the revenue generated on speeding fines.

Mind you, you are probably right, they will just work out another scheme to take our money

One of my mates got caught doing 103mph, was banned for 60 days but this was reduced to 28 because of his job. Got his licence back on the Thursday, went on a training course on the friday and got caught again! (in our bosses X3 that is) 3 points and £60, a day after he got his licence back.

    It's already happening -

The Road Angel was a spin-off from a University project [in Leeds, I think] to modify an Escort [couldn't happen to a nicer car!] that used GPS to enforce speed limits. I think the prototype actually applied the brakes if the car went down a hill too fast.

All it would take is is linking GPS into the CANBUS and maybe a bit of map data. Alternately, the car could upload speeding and other data to the authorities.

Accident investigators already use data from ABS controllers to estimate speed prior to impact.

Brave new world and all that...

    Cheers,

    Guy

Hi I'm new and just thought I'd add my personal view

I was stopped in Dorset doing 98 in a 70 dual carriageway by a police Volvo estate, they had me on in car camera.Obviously I couldn't say it was someone else driving (I wouldn't recommend this course of action anyway !) but I wrote a letter to the court as I couldn't appear in person, stating that I needed the car for work, hospital trips as my eldest son was ill at the time, and that I had a previously unblemished licence. (All true, just in case you're wondering .....)

I got a 60 quid fine and 5 points ~ I don't know if my letter helped or hindered my case, I was just pleased that I wasn't banned.

Hope it goes well for you but there's really not much you can do now anyway. Finger's crossed !

    Tina

Imagine if a lorry had pulled out to overtake without checking there mirrors, as they always do. They would be picking his body parts up form a large area.....

That sort of speed is disgusting....
That's just the thing - if the lorry driver pulled out AFTER checking his mirrors and every other conceivable pre-pull out safety check was checked, he would still have pulled out. A bike travelling at 170mph is just not something I ever expect to be coming over the hill/round the corner/out of the blue.
