I'm about tackle a split front outer CV boot on my Polo 1.9 TDI, and have noticed that it recommends the 12pt hub nut should be replaced.

Qusetion is what size is the nut?

It looks 34-36mm at a guess, bigger than anything I have anyway and looks like it possibly needs to be a thin walled version, so I'll need to get a socket to fit.

Anyone one know for definite what size it is off the top of their head? (before I buy the wrong one by accident..)

Oh... and what I should torque it back up to..

36mm 12 bihex socket. Use thread lock tighten to 50Nm for 13" wheels. For 14" and 15" wheels 50Nm plus 45 degrees. You should use a new nut if you can get one. Tighten with the wheel on the ground.

    Thanks Martin,

All done and dusted, fortunately I managed to "cadge" a socket from a neighbour, I couldn't find one locally for love nor money. Found the torque settings in me haynes manual, which surprised me because it's not really very good. Years ago I seem to remember them being much more detailed.

    Anyway jobs a gud un..

    Cheers for the info.
