For the last 2 weeks only, I am getting a bobble-clunk noise, when I go over a big road pot-hole, from the driver's side of my 1999 Passat 1.8T. It has 90k miles on the clock.

The drive shafts seem fine and they were only replaced 6 months ago.

I tightened the upper mountings of the shock absorbers to the specified torque and I generally tried to see if I could spot any obvious wear in the suspension or steering gear brushes, mountings etc.

Posts here suggest either the "suspension lower ball joint" or the anti-roll bar brushes are prime suspects. How can I narrow down the fault ? Or is there any other fault that I should check first ?
