I thought as much but thanks for clearing that up.I was getting the following code....17664 - Engine Coolant Temp Sensor (G62): Open or Short to Plus
    P1256 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
    Readiness: 0 1 0 0 0
so got the owner to buy a new temp sender but the fault has reappeared.According to ross tech wiki it could be the wiring.
Is the wiring prone in any particular area???
    Thanks

Forgot to mention that the car is not suffering from any of the listed symptoms on ross tech wiki only the stored fault code and the coolant symbol on the dash.
    Thanks

No they are not prone to wiring issues. Coolant symbol? You mean the low water level? That is in the bottle and nothing to do with the temp sender.

Thanks Crasher. In that case i may be looking at an extra fault.I think the coolant symbol stays steady when it comes on.Does that mean low coolant level which it isn't or overheating???
    Thanks

You have a coolant temp sender fault code so that needs replacing.
