Imbecile fitting a Parrot BT kit to 06 Passat...

Hi all

This is my first post, so please be kind/gentile/amused (delete as applicable).

I have a Passat 2.0 TDI Sport 2006, and have purchased a Parrot CK3100 BT kit I'd like to install myself.

The car has an RCD500 (I think). It's the one with a 6-disc in dash changer and Mp3. Will the supplied leads be ok, or do I need to throw more cash at this?

Unfortunately I am not Auto-savvy, going so far as to say I have less knowledge about cars than is really healthy for a driver, so I'd be most grateful if someone could point me in the direction of a step-by-step guide of how to install the kit.

If "throwing more cash at this" is an option for you......then I'd pay someone to fit it.

Sorry, haven't got any pictures, but fitted a CK3100 to my SE with an RCD300. I had to buy a special adaptor cable for the Parrot ISO leads to fit the VW audio unit.
To get at my unit, you have to very carefully prise the plasic radio surround off and there are a couple of screws holding the radio in.
WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T DISCONNECT THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT AS IF YOU FLICK THE IGNITION ON, YOU WILL HAVE AN AIRBAG FAULT!!! Don't ask how I know!!
You'll have to find an auxilliary ignition feed as there isn't one at the radio.
Only other thing is route the mivrophone cable carefully so it doesn't interfere with the airbags.

just a couple of other questions. How much was the additional cable and did you order it directly from parrot? And where did you locate an alternative 12v feed? Oh, and did you secure the blue box thing anywhere in particular behind the dash?

Cable converter kit from parrot is their part no PC000018AA, under £20 from what I remember.

It is then just plug and play, unplug the block from the radio and plug all the connectors together - seem to remember they are all different so it should only go together one way.

I took my ignition feed from the back of the cigarette lighter under the radio, used a scotch-block connector to piggy back it.

I ended up taking the air-con controls out and feeding the wires behind that and then there was space behind the ash tray and below the radio for the blue box and excess wires. Bit fiddly getting the plug back up to the radio but worth it.

I got my Parrot lead for about £10 form Ebay.
I fitted the blue box behind the glove box area.
I took an aux ign feed from the right hand fuse box. I found a suitable supply that had a mini fuse spare, I then got a 5A mini fuse and soldered a feed on the 'output side of the fuse.
Does that make sense??
Let us know how you get on, but if you' re not sure, get it professionally fitted, it's not that expensive, and an airbag light reset could cost you £40.

Not sure if you will have fitted it yet?

I paid a fitter £50 to do mine, I stood and watched him for the first twenty minutes (took him about an hour and a half). Even after 20 minutes I walked away assured it was £50 well spent!

Where did you find one of "those" fitters who ask you to leave the car for cupple of hours, so you thing the money is well spent

One on mine passat,one on my fathers passat, and one on my friend touareg. You place the box under the steering wheels, get to the radio ( 4screws ) and plug the jack. Run the wire from the box to the sunshiled. The first pasat took me about 40 minutes as I was planning the places, the second one not more that 15-20 minutes, and the easiest job was the tuareg, as it has a lot of working space behind the dash. Less thn 20 minutes.

It is a perfect match to the cars, as it works perfectly, connects perfectly and everything is hidden. The box is big like a box of ciggaretes. Not to mention the steering wheel controls
