    Hi,

I own a 2005 T5 128kw I love music but when using the cigarette lighter socket to power my ipod, it remains live even when the key is removed from the car and its locked. Is it just a problem with my van that can be fixed by ticking the right boxes on the computer, or is everyones cigarette lighter live all the time?

When using my ipod in my wife's car when the key is turned off, it turns off the ipod as well via the cigarette lighter socket. Perfect solution if I can get the VW to do this as well.

    regards
    Gary (Tasmania)

AFAIK all VW cigarette lighter's are live all the time.

Not a long term problem in the UK because if you left your iPod plugged in it would not be there when you get back & you would be ordering a new window.

Why not just unplug the iPod when not in use ?

Personally, I prefer the socket to be live all the time.

Thanks Brian for the info. I just wondered if my van's socket was faulty.

Here in Tasmania my ipod would probably be removed too if left in a "iffy" suburb.

As I have a garage it doesn't need to be removed but my main reason for wanting to leave it in is because the rubber 'thingy" of the Belkin cradle make it difficult to pull out each time and will wear out in time if I keep doing it.

My easiest solution I guess is to get an auto electrician to put another socket into one of the blank switches on my dash that does go off.

    cheers
    Gary
