whats the best oil for my A6 2001 3lt quattro

Hi all,
my oil light has finally come on.... its the first time im changing the oil.

Please could anyone recommend the best oil for my Audi A6 2001 3lt petrol Quattro, it has just covered 70,000.

Quantum Synta 10w40 and go on to 10,000 mile intervals

I assume it is a petrol,

Castrol GTX 5W30 is the recommended oil - Fully Synthetic. Was told by a garage to change it myself every 5k miles and the engine will look like new after 100k. Note don't forget to change your oil filter.

I am surprised you got 70k out of it as I find Audi's drink oil (I have a 2.4 cab and my wife has a 2.0 TFSI A6 and we regularly get the oil light - note I had never had to refill oil on any other car I have owned - it would last for the year until service time).

I actually used Castrol Magnatec but you are correct if using the castrol site. Also meant 5w30 not 5w40.

So what do you mean to recommend, you started with a mineral oil then a semi synth when that engine calls for full synth like Edge. Make your mind up. Regards Peter

Magatec was recommended to me - not it is fully synthetic.

Apologies for the mixup at the start, did it from memory. I have a petrol and you don't state if you have petrol or diesel.

Stating a fact is not being obnoxious. Telling the OP that GTX was the way forward was most misleading, and when I try to steer you in right direction you still do not hit it on the head. The OP may have been changing his oil today so you have to take care to get it right. Regards Peter
