Hi, just got my Passat on wednesday. Noticed one numberplate light was not working so unscrewed the light and replaced the bulb. Still wouldn't work. Unscrewed the other numberplate light which went out and didn't work again. I now have the warning light on on the dash. Anyone had similar problems and know how to fix?

Change the bulbs but make sure they are the right bulb or the car will not be happy.

Hi Martin, replaced one bulb but must have been the wrong type. Cant find anything in manual about which bulbs to use. A quick trip to Halfords in the morning then.

    Thanks

Got two new bulbs this morning, one worked straight away the other didnt. Bit of corrosion around the contacts. Scraped this away and now it works.
I noticed a bit of rusting around the number plate lights themselves. Read about this on this forum. Not good for a car thats not even 4 years old!

Try testing for 12v at the bulb holder. If you have 12v then it might be a bad earth connection. A wiring fault like this can be in the trunk lid or a damaged wire running from the body. Takes some searching usually.

Same here, spoke to VW Listers and they say it should be covered under warranty. I'm taking mine in to the body shop next week for them to have a look i'll let you know how I get on

when changing any bulb make sure the lights are off otherwise it will blow straight away, i had this prob before make sure the 2 prongs that hold the light holder in place arent bent and are making contact as these bent/brake very easily while been taken out id to replace mine
also i was wondering has anyone got info on why an led bulb wont work in a 2005 b6 passat?

LED's only work one way round so did you try both ways. Always make sure you fit quality LED bulbs. These will have a resistor built into them.

Lots of good advice in this thread.. Find some tried and tested Error free LEDs at www.HIDorigin.com
LEDs tend to be hardier than the OEM festoons.
B6 will need two 37mm LED festoons (with built in resistors) NO DASH ISSUES.
