Ah, it's not just me that has that gap! Every time I look in the engine bay I think "I must post on the forum and find out what should be there."

    Mine is the same.

Weird, I noticed it the other day! I wondered if it was for the ballast if the car had factor fit Xenons?
Or maybe it's where a fuel filter (note the 2 dipped bits where the in/out pipes would go) would go on another engine of the same model they just didn't redesign the bracket.

Not when you consider we have a lot of users who drive on the right. The right of a car is always right, left always left.

Now if everyone put their location on, as they are supposed to do, we would have an idea if they were driving a left hooker........

I thought so too and was about to back you up until I thought about out overseas friends who have left hand drives and drive on the wrong, (oops sorry), right side of the road .
Then their nearside becomes our offside and our nearside becomes their offside and their offside becomes our nearside and our offside becomes their nearside..... or is it the other way round?

Maybe if Audi were to install a compass in the centre of the engine bay/engine cover, and we all parked, say, due north before attempting to describe a location within the engine bay, then we could simply read off the direction indicated on the compass.
At that point, we should then all be looking the same way - unless of course your parked up at the earths poles at the time then the readings may be somewhat out.
