I can't get my Golf Mk3 GT 95' to start! It turns over more than fine which tells me it is not battery related and the battery sounds fully charged. It just seems to be missing the spark to spring it into life.

Weird thing is, just the day before I'd driven 150km and back again at the end of that day and the next morning it just didn't want to spark up.

Only recently did a similar thing happen where the car just ground to a halt, giving me the same symptoms when I tried starting it. Eventually a mechanic replaced what I can only descibe as a small balck box fixed just under the front windscreen housing/grill to the engine bay body work. It has one lead coming out it leading to the starter coil (?) whcih have attached to it the other spark plug cables.

You'll have to excuse my limited vocablary for the parts as I only know them in Italian as I live here even though I'm English and have for the last 4 years.

Anybody got any more ideas I can try before taking it to a mecchanic?

I have a golf iii station wagon 1.6L. My car has developed the same fault you've just described. A mecahanic replaced the coil and distributor in mine, but still the problem has persisted. Right now, i've ordered a OBDII usb interface cable to help me in diagnosis.I suspect the problem could be from one of the relay switches...
