    I have the same problem.

Car has been with my garage all day, faultcame back as an Oxygen sensor on the ECU diagnostic. Fixed that and hey presto, I still have the problem.

Idles at 600 rpm for ages then sits at 900 when warmer.

Is cutting out all the time, when heading onto a round about it is not the best time to be power stearing and brake less!

Have noticed when the ignition is turned, a high pitched constant noise coming from near the throttle body and after 20 seconds it goes, however, when I start the car the noise is back.

    Any ideas?

Brakeless? I thought the brakes would work even if the car had cut out?

On another note, since these cars have ABS, When you press the Brake Pedal, when the engine is off, it will eventually stiffen up (returns to normal as soon as the engine is running) and if you dont turn the engine over, effectively it will be very difficult for you to brake, (in the case of Dimmaden)

The high pitched noise from the throttle body is correct but the loss of brake servo is interesting. Do you lose brake servo effect immediately the engine cuts out?

Most times it has cut out is traffic lights and on roundabouts so have just enough power to brake, but losing the steering is also a pain. Lost power steering on the M5 earlier and it didn't come back for 195 miles until I got into a town centre. Wont sell it to anybody but am going to part ex it I think. Death trap at the moment!

That doesn’t make sense, you have two faults there. The power steering pump is driven from the engine. What year and engine code is the car? This info is in your service book.

Are you sure its not just a lack of Power Steering Fluid?

    Yeah, that has been checked.

Took it round mechanics tonight and he saw the car stall and iddle iratically so has said he will check all the air valves and replace them and do a full carb clean for £10 result. Hope that sorts it.

It's a 2002 1.4E, don't know the engine number as the car is at the garage with the service book.
