Help please!

I have bought a 97P reg VR6 Sharan - fixed the drain holes as wife was driving in heavy rain and passenger got wet legs! but main prob is that the spray jets to the front wipers very intermittently working. I have checked the pipes back as far as I can and they seem clear. Any ideas please and in laymans terms please I am useless with cars but wanting to learn now!!

You say they are working intermittently - if they work fine sometimes and not at other times it makes me suspect the pump motor or possibly wiring/switch. If you try it with the ignition on and engine off (so it is quiet) you will be able to hear if the electric motor is spinning ok. If the motor always turns but the water flow is intermittent then I would suspect debris in the water reservoir - you could try filling it/flushing it with a hose pipe and let it overflow to remove any muck from the container and see if that helps.
