    Hi Martin
I have only just bought the car from a very good dealer and I have used the scanner for all the checks and the car is all clear.

I have only bought this for my own personal use so hopefully I won't need to use it very much but as it is a universal not just a Volkswagen if I need to use it on the wifes car or daughters I will let the forum know.

    Hi Guys
Another scanner related question,in the hand book for the scanner it says turn ignition on but don't start the car.
In my car hadbook it says once the glow plug light has gone out start the car immediatly am I going to cause any problems by not starting the car while I am using the scanner.

    Thanks again
    Norman

I always scan with the engine running when it will, some codes will occur on certain cars with the engine not running and some functions (like certain basic setting) are not possible with the engine not running.

Norman, 'cos in normal cold starting, when the glo plug light goes out they are at their hottest and likely to give you the best cold start. Leave it longer and they will cool down again. Not an issue if you are doing diagnosis, as you are not planning to start at the time anyway.

    Hi Martin
    Thought you would be interested.
I tried the scanner on my brothers 2003 VW Passat 1.9 diesel and according to all the information I have collected it should not have worked because the diesel before 2004 was not suppossed to be compliant but it worked great,
I also tried it on his son-in-laws 1998 Passat (petrol)and it worked on that as well in fact it picked up 3 B+ low voltage faults on his so for the money it appears to be a very good scanner.
