    I have a 2001 MK4 1.9 SE TDI 130 Golf.

Under accelloration it produces clouds of black smoke, I have changed the MAF but no change.

I have tried disconnecting the pipe to the EGR still no change.

However when I disconnect the MAF and run the car, (in what I suspect would be limp mode), although geartly down on power there is no smoke at all at any speed.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Just disconnecting the pipe to the EGR may not be enough, a full clean of the unit is more likely to give you results. Theres likely to be greasy deposits upto the inlet.

Other than that a tune may be in order as the smoke is usually the effect of a incorrect air/fuel mixture. The 'get you home' mode ( g.y.h = the noise you make when your ecu light comes on) reduces your engine power output, so you will have less air/fuel going in - therefore less smoke out the end).

You could try changing your fuel filter and air filter to see if it helps.
