I know this has come up before, but there seems to be a huge range of possible reasons for shaky idle on the 130pd lump. Amongst the possibilities I've read:

    - injector issues
    - failing MAF / dodgy MAF connection
    - engine mount
    - dirty EGR valve
    - low oil level

Mine has just (past couple of weeks) developed a bit of a rock and roll at idle when starting from cold, but it more or less goes away when the engine's properly warmed up. Except... if you let it idle for several minutes when it's warm, in which case it gradually starts rocking again.

Switching the climate control on or off makes no difference; neither does depressing the clutch pedal (so not the DMF then).

It's due for a service in a couple of days and I'll be asking them to take a look, but suggestions of possible causes (including anything I haven't thought of) are welcome!

I aint no mechanic, but I should think it could be the engine mounts. I think they need to be changed every 40 or 50K miles.

I had toi change both of the mounts on mine, and it cost me 260 pounds, inc labour, from a specialist.

But then again I could be wrong! It could be something very minor.

I have this issue at the moment. Engine shaking at tick over, 800 revs, if I bring it up to about 1100 the shake goes away pretty much. Car is driving fine otherwise. Mechanic is certain it is the dual mass flywheel. Getting the flywheel and whole clutch kit changed tomorrow. Hopefully will fix it. Will keep you posted.

How much is it costing you to get the flywheel changed?

Could it be the glow plugs as these can give lumpy starts and idle when cold?

I doubt it, cause when I changed my plugs it still use to stay above 800rpm, for couple of seconds.

I'm in Ireland so it'll be in euro's. Flywheel + clutch kit(clutch disk, release bearing and pressure plate) are about 800 euro + labour. Will probably know later tonight what dent my wallet will take.

The engine mounts are solenoids on the B6 130TDi aren't they? I had a lumpy idle on mine and Audi diagnosed a full set of injectors at £2400+labour. I didn't pay it

    Thanks for all the suggestions

Now for the bad news: my lumpy idle has been diagnosed as being the result of a dead no. 1 injector

    The damage: around £600

The kicker: my warranty expired just 7 days ago (when the car was still, as far as I can recall, fine. Or at least, the idle wasn't bad enough that it was bothering me).

Throw in the service it was due anyway plus new front discs and pads and I've got a couple of pints' worth change out of a grand...

Ah, well. It's just not been my week!
