    Hi All.
Please bear with me as this is my 1st post.
I am having fuel problems with my passat.
If the car is sitting on level ground over night it has difficllty in starting in the morning. I have done all the obvious, ie computer check, no faults recorded, checked all fuel hoses and connections , replaced non return valves, replaced both pump and engine control relays, replaced filter head relays. When I try to start 1st thing in the morning, it gives you the impression that the fuel filter is empty and after cranking the engine for about 45secs. it then starts and runs perfectly all day until you have to start it again 1st thing the following morning. If I raise the back of the car about 4 inches { park onto 4in planks overnight } the car will start perfectly everytime. I have concluded that the fuel leaks back from the engine side of the fuel filter.I have spoken to a few knowledgeable friends who suggested that the problem might lie within the seals on the injectors and fuel pump on the head. The price of the seal kit for the injectors is a ridicilous price @ £ 56.00 + Vat. for about 12 rubber seals and 4 copper washers which I don't want to spend on less I am certain it will cure my problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards Hugh.

I'd say go over what you already have done again as it does indeed sound like you've got an air ingress problem and the system is effectively re-bleeding itself every morning.

The tandem lift pump is one thing you have not mentioned, this is the fuel lift pump and vacuum pump combined, they do go dud. Expensive but an easy DIY fix. It will not show up on any diagnostic.

Other than that, check again all the obviuos stuff which it sounds like you already have. In particular look at the seals on the fuel stat that pushes into the filter, there is a black one and a blue one.

    Good luck !!

It can't be the tandem lift pump as if it were the system could not reprime itself. I agree, it's got to be some simple sealing issue.

It can be the lift pump.

If the shaft seal has worn it will let air in.

I've read about extreme cases where diesel has even got into the engine.
