    Hi
Does anyone know how (or if you can) reset the service light on an Audi B7 without VAG COM or any other tools?

I picked up my car yesterday and the garage forgot to reset it!

    Hi,

I copied and am pasting the following instructions from a website in Ireland. Never tried it myself, but trust that it will work fine:

On the dash of your Audi there are 3 buttons under the fuel gauge, from left to right the 1st one just forget about & the other 2 we will call 'A' & 'B' (B =closest to fuel gauge).

    1.press & hold button 'A'

    2.switch ignition 'ON'

    3.release button 'A'

4,the words 'SERVICE' or 'Service in xxxx MI' will appear in the trip recorder display.
5,now press button 'B' until the display clears & is replaced with the new service interval or 'SERVICE'

    6.switch ignition 'OFF'

    Hope that works,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for that it seems to have worked... The service interval now just shows ---- and I am guessing this is start to display some figures after I drive it around.

    Thanks again for your help!

That will have put you on a fixed interval servicing now though. You need VAG-COM to set up variable servicing properly.

It will now be on fixed intervals and the mileage to next service will be lower than if reset properly.. 8,600 miles springs to mind but I know that's not the correct figure.

I bought my car not long after a service and service interval also showed ---. Garage said it would start to display after 500 or so miles. It still hadn't after 1000miles so I took it back. Problem I was told was that they had reset it wrongly for fixed interval servicing rather than long life. Once reset again, this time for 'long life' sure enough after about 500 miles it showed me roughly 16000miles or 600ish days until next service. This now counts down consistently with the type of driving I am doing.
Hope this helps and might be worth looking out for if the --- never disappear.
