I managed to knock my tracking out hitting a pot-hole and now the tyre wants replacing, I was looking to put a matching pair on the front.
Can anybody suggest a good tyre ( Passat B6 2.0 Tdi sport 235/45zr17) and which tracking i would be best getting done Kwikfit quoted me £290 for front wheel tracking + 2 michelin pilot primacy HP tyres ( had michelin on a previous passat and they were excellent). VW quoted £85 for 4 wheel tracking.
    Any suggestions please.

tyres are many,as you know, and often personal preference takes
    over from safety/grip/cost/reliability etc.etc.
you will get a list of thousands on here!!!!!!!
VW 4 wheel tracking at £80 odd sounds good to me though,
    regards,

'57 140TDI Estate. Just had car 40k service. Dealer said alloys were corroded so ordered new set under warranty (old wheels looked perfect!).
Rear tyres worn on inside edge causing whining noise - dealer said tracking needs adjusting, probably caused by towing a caravan which is my fault and would have to pay??. All 4-wheels tracked by dealer with full report for £45.00. All 'before' readings were within specified limits so why do rear tyres wear only on inside edge? Dealer has no answer - probably just cheap tyres (Pirelli).
Other than this, the car is an absolute gem!

thanks for the replies I decided to go for 4 wheel tracking from a newly started local firm £17. and they are fitting me a pair of michelin pilot primacy hp for £131 each.
With regards to tyre pressures I have gone through the various postings and have been running 2.45 bar ( i found this best for comfort/not reducing economy too much- tend to average 50mpg driving to and from work) for a while, the only reason my tracking is out i hit a pot-hole driving down a little country lane on the isle of wight.

My '07 estate had inside edge worn tyres (OEM Dunlops) with whining well before I even fitted a tow bar. Its not the caravan and not the Pirellis (which are a "Premium" tyre). I am convinced the alignment specs are wrong (Total toe +10' +/- 10'). The rear wheels should really have positive "toe in" so they move to parallel when rolling. I am sure THAT would eliminate the inner wear.
With all this I too agree, the car is a gem!

The wear on the rear inside edge is a well known "fault", however VW wont own up to the problem and the dealer said they will happily check it, but if its within VW guidelines, then I would get the charge (£99).

The service manager admitted its very common on all VW Passat estates and said I was lucky to be getting 20k miles out of a set of rears due to this issue.

only option is to get it booked into an independant wheel allignment - which should be alot cheaper and ask them to adjust to stop the wear occuring.
