    Hello

I'm worried and have 350 miles to drive this weekend!

I ignored my letter from VW about my cam belt and only recently remembered now my Polo diesel sport is 5 years old and has done about 55000 miles without having it changed.

Is it likely to go any minute and does it give you any warning before it does?!

check for wear and tear on the belt like cracks or perished marks...also if its noisey is a sign.

when is it supposed to be changed? If it's past it I'd get it done ASAP.

I would get it changed because of the age of the belt. get it check before your trip if your worried.

id say change it, have alook your self, any cracks in the belt then deffo change.normaly service at every 10,000 miles and your just in between .my polo is just about to get booked in for it cam and aux belt change, my car has only had a service 3,000 miles ago but was not big service and the car was not mine on the last service so im been safe but its costing me £214, not cheap so make sure for deffo if it needed but its either that or a new engine if you guess is wrong.

Have I read your post correctly, that VW advised you to change your cambelt ? Was it VW or was it your dealer ? I was not advised by VW or my dealer, that I use all the time, to change the cambelt at 4 years and mine snapped at 4years 3 months damaging the cylinder head and costing me £2,000. I am very frustrated that no-one warned me about it - since my service booklet says 120K !!
So don't ignore that letter unless you want a big bill !!

just replace the cam belt if it is due, it's way cheaper than replaced an engine...
