How easy is it to fit mudflaps to the Golf MkVI?

Want to get some on my Golf but don't really fancy paying for the privilege of the dealer fitting them.

I've fitted front & rears myself, and as machine mentions above its a straight forward job. The packs come complete with all you need in the way of instructions, fixings, washers, etc.

First you need to remove each wheel in turn to get space to work and the rest is A - B - C, the only fiddley bit is you need to "puncture" a small hole in the plastic inner wheel arch shields to fix a nut & bolt. There's 2 of these to each mudflap, but I didn't bother about the outer one (you'll see what I mean in the instruction sheets) as they looked and felt secure enough with just the inside one done - you're choice of course.

Very neat fit and they really do make a difference, particularly the rears as the rear window and bodywork is now noticeably clearer of the road dirt and spray. Even the side bodywork is cleaner with the front ones fitted.

    Money well spent I reckon.

    Hi,

I'm also thinking of fitting mudflaps to my TDI 1.6 (on order, due September - hopefully!) but I’ve never seen them on the car or even a picture. Are they reasonably discrete or are they embarrassingly big and effectively four big air brakes?

    Hi John,

They not like Scoobies for example, they're sculptured to fit neatly into the contours for the bodywork.

I'm like you in that I don't want to be looking at mudflaps the moment I see the car, so for me to say I'm satisfied with them perhaps will go some way to allay your fears - if I get time tonight I'll take a picture.

However, in my defence - "one man's meat is another man's poison!"

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply and especially for the pictures. Yes they look discrete enough for me - that's a set of mudguards on order then!

Now to get back to Top Gear and nope I've not been persuaded to change my order to a Scirocco!

    Cheers,

They're a lot more discreet that I imagined.

How much do the official mudflaps cost from a dealer?

Every time my car so much as looks at a puddle it gets caked with mud splatter all down its side!

My primary concern is having to wash it so often and having to wash it when it's got mud and grit down the sides, and the affect that this will have on the paintwork.

According to the Golf Mk VI Price List they are £31.50 for the front pair and another £31.50 for the rear pair. Rather a lot, but probably still well worth it. I'm still going ahead on this one.
