    Hi Guys

I am the proud owner of a Black 2002 GT TDI 130 PD, i had a 1.8t passat before this and loved it, i think with the GT TDI you get the pokey engine as well as atonishing economy (averaged 66mpg going from Bham to London!!!)

I acquired the vehicle last month and was wondering is there anything i should know about these cars or anything i should get checked out to make sure the car continue to run smoothly

Also she is due a service is there anything in particular i should do or get done at this stage? bearing in mind its done 108k miles

    look forward to your responses

    Regards

Really depends on the service history? or what exactly has been done to the car...Have a look in the service manual, provided you have it of course?

If you want to service it yourself, it's very easy. For a walkthrough, see: https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ead.php?t=7845

This should be done every 5,000 miles (not every 20,000 or when the car feels like telling you) and use Quantum Longlife 3 (507.00 grade) oil. Costs £41 from the dealer for 5 litres. Costs a bit more, but changed regularly, it protects and reduces wear inside your engine (which is the point of oil after all!), which old gunky oil won't do and will subsequently make a BIG hole in your wallet. Assuming it's not a bag of nails already, this is one of the most important maintenance tasks for your car.

Make sure cambelt and water pump is changed every 60,000 miles or 4 years with genuine VW parts. If you're not sure when it has last been done, get it done now. If it goes pop, wave goodbye to £££!

Thanks for you're responses, the car is in pretty good nick with full service history, and looks to have been done every 10k miles.

It was owned as a pool car so has spent most of its life on the motorway but i mainly do city driving with sporadic motorway jaunts.

What are the signs of a gearbox on the decline?

    Hi Guys

just booked remap to take the ol girl to 165bhp, also retro fitting cruise control

the car is set up to long life servicing (computer will just tell me when she wants it done)

however have been advised to switch this to time / distance which is better for the engine apparently

I can't see benefit of using LongLife III oil in a PD engine with no DPF - Better of with Quantum Platinum oil changed frequently.

From milage sounds like it's due for 2nd Cam belt service, so I would get that done before a remap...

Not sure PD engine has longlife service anyway, they're all time and distance, but better off changing with Platinum every 5000 miles.

i bet you, that after you have had it remaped you will be fitting a new clutch in less than a 1000miles, the clutches always seam to ware out very fast when you remap a GT TDi
