Hi does anyone have any problems with the Start Stop function? Is it a problem on hills? Do the brakes automatically come on?

    hi,

not sure i understand what you're problem is.. the start stop is just the same as the key, it doesn't automatically put the handbrake on. if you've got hill hold for example, it'll hold the brake on, then when you power the car off (or take your seatbelt off, OR open your car door) it'll turn the main/parking brake on. i've made a mistake a few times now of turning the car off and not putting the brake on. first one was on the first day i had it, almost had a nice cosy slam into a brick wall!

let me know if that's answered your q's

You won't have Hill Hold Assist on a Start Stop car.

Scottish bud - was the thread title meant to be a question?

The engine will only turn off if the car's in neutral and the hand brakes on. It won't do this for you.

Hill's don't make any difference to the operation. It's exactly the same as without Start Stop because as soon as you are ready to move off the engine will start and hence it will be the car with cars without Start Stop.

Turning the ignition on turns it on each time.

I don't have Start/Stop but I was thinking that using Start/Stop might cause the starter motor to wear out quicker. A typical daily commute for me would be just one use of the starter motor without Start/Stop but maybe 6 times use with Start/Stop. Add up all those extra uses day to day and surely a 3 year old starter motor will have as much wear as a 20 year old starter motor.

I think Audi may know that and sorted it out!!

I have driven a few Start / Stop (Audi, MINI, FIAT & BMW) cars I still do not see what the problem is. All Cars will have it in a year or 2 - If people do not like it well I think it maybe tough luck

If you don't like it then it's just a button you have to press. I'm in the habit of pressing the Hill Hold Assist button so worst case I'll just press the disable button instead.
