    Evening,

Hoping some of you on here may be able to help:

Last year the ECON light on the A6 (2003, 1.8T) stayed on. Read the manual and it said that if it does, then the system need re-gassing. Took it to a independant garage who recharged the system and all was well.

Fast forward to this year - a couple of weeks ago the air con was playing up - the ECON light was staying off, but the air con was sometimes blowing warmish air, with the temp set to LO. Sometimes, turning the air con off, then on (using the ECON switch) it would be ok. Then the ECON light would come on, but a press of the button would re-start the compressor.

Then, last week the ECON light was illuminated (i.e. air con not on, compressor not kicking in), and it would stay on. Oh, I thought, needs re-gassing, and maybe its got a leak. So, took it to Kwik Fit today who vacummed the system and recharged. They told me that the first reading of the measure of gas in the system was not low enough to warrent a full re-gas, nevertheless did it anyway - so system was fully charged (around 0.65kg? I think). However, the ECON light was still on, and pressing the switch wouldnt help.

The good thing is, due to their policy, they wouldnt charge me, as they had to prove that the work they had done had fixed the problem, and it hadn't.

So - looks like there isnt a leak in the system.

    I've read this thread:

    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...t=70023&page=3

and I'm thinking that this sensor could be the issue. However, my local Audi dealership want to charge around 90 quid for a diagnostic.

What do you think I should do? Take the chance and get the part from Audi, in the hope it will fix it? - Or get the diagnostic done to bring up the fault code?

Is this a common issue? And is it a likely fault? Don't worry, I won't hold you to it - just am being stingy and don't want to pay Audi 90 quid!

    Thanks,

    BB.

The link does not work, it brings you to the homepage.

I assume you are talking about the high/low pressure switch?

In which case, look on here in the vagcom subforum for someone who could help you in diagnosis / fault code read.

The pressure switch is a diy job if your reasonable with spanners.

Just a thought - will the AA be able to read the fault code? I've got a mate that works for them - he will prob be able to help.

I had them out a few months ago, for what turned out to be a faulty coil pack - if they can get that fault code, will they be able to see if there is one for the air con system?

    Cheers,

    BB.
