A local aviation celeb organised an air extravaganzsa to raise funds to repair the tower on our historic village church. Unfortunatly I missed out on tickets to get into the airfield but we had a great view of the flying from the front garden.

That's quite a spectacle from the your own garden!
I see the weather was as bad in Oxfordshire as it was in Cheshire yesterday then!!

Wasn't too bad, a little cloudy and a bit of a breeze but the rain held off untill late evening. For some reason the photos look a bit dark when uploaded to this forum.

I'm only about 15 miles fom Manchester airport so regularly hear jets rumbling away, but I can only remember 2 occasions when a Lancaster has come over! That's probably quite a lot in the grand scheme of things. Wicked sound those four engines make!

di you know a bit of trivia for you that Spitfires were fitted with Nitrous Oxide as a one shot deal.
this was to provide power to pull out of dive that was to steep on heavy rocket runs but the poor old Merlin was destroyed as a result
got the pilot out of trouble though i suppose

Interesting, didn't know that! I suppose it's not disimilar to crunple zones in outlook - the vehicle gets knackered in order to save the occupant! Weren't they supercharged as well?

A two stage supercharger and 2055 BHP! That makes a Veyron sound like a little runaround!!
