Ah - spot of advice on bonnet release catch

MkIV Golf TDi

Just went to check on oil and top up screenwash. Pinged the in-car bonnet release - no problem. Pulled the 2nd exterior release tag only to find that it has snapped off it's mounting and came away in my hand, leaving the bonnet nicely shut.

Does anyone know the internals of the catch - could it be a simple hinged safety catch that I maybe able to release with a screw driver and a bit of jiggling, before I take it down to the local flease monkeys to have them look at it.

I think I read a post on this somewhere, do a search.
If I remember rightly, the owner had to get at it from underneath, which wouldn't be that easy, but they managed it.

Thanks - problem resolved (sort of) courtesy of Mssrs Ikea and a pack of their plastic picture hooks and 15 mins of picking and hooking until the latch was snagged and bonnet opened. Once open was able to reattach plastic catch
