    Hello vw guru's,

I need some help, the ignition on our Polo 1.4 2001 is not working properly, when you pull the key out the radio stays on and the light buzzer doesnt work when you open the door. Its definitly the ignition switch, as when i disconnect the plug at the back of the ignition the lights buzzer jumps to life.

Is there anyway I replace or access the bits at the base of the ignition barrel without removing the whole ignition barrel - as that looks like a mission. I have attached a pic - there seems to be a part that looks like it can be opened up - can it?

    Please help - thanks

you may not have to replace switch
    try this first
spray wd40 down ignition barrell and operate key several times untill you hear a possitive click comming from ignition
    this should cure

I'll give that a try, there is a good solid click when I remove the key, but maybe something else is stuck

Right, I sent some WD40 down the barrel and worked it heaps - but no joy. As mentioned, there is a good click when you remove the key, so I think its more to do with the actual electric starter switch at the base of the ignition barrel.

Can this be changed without removing the whole ignition?
