1.6 Petrol Starting / Revving

A friends 1.6 Petrol will sometimes not start for one or two tries. On other occasions it will start but runs at low revs and stops. Usually it will start 3rd or 4th attempt but revs to 3000rpm for second before returning to normal idle and then driving normally. There are no dashlights but there is a beeping sound when the ignition is turned on.
Have not had a chance to scan it yet but has anyone had any similar issues and can point to the cause perhaps ?

Had the same problem, I had to clean my MAF sensor and throttle body with injector cleaner, and all if pristine now

Tks ama3654 I'll suggest that totry and as vagcom did not throw up any errors at all.
Engine code is I think ! BCB too it is an 02 plate Golf Mk4 S 1.6.

You will have fun trying to clean the AMM (MAF) on a BCB, they don’t have one…
