My Allroad isn't settling overnight, it just won't pump up. Unless it's a hot day then it seems to work!!!! My only thought is that the pump seals are goosed and the heat helps them seal?

Pump rattles away for ages before the height error light coming on in the dash.

Now time to try and get a pump from fleabay

    Hi BoothBoy,

I am not sure about your compressor sounds strange it works when hot??, Have you had the fault codes read? i would recommend this,

if you are determined to get a new compressor i could point you in the direction of this:

i believe lee (Snugglebum) has purchased one see link:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/compressor-air...3A1%7C294%3A50

check all part numbers before doing so but seems to be genuine replacement, perhaps lee could give us his recomendation or warn if it a pile or crap?

tip is to search german e-bay it has plenty of Audi stuff, all you have to do is translate what they are selling!!

    regards

    Hi Andy

The pump is genuine and works great. I haven’t installed it on the car yet but i did connect it up and test it when i had my original pump off. The reason i haven’t fitted it is since ive replaced the front airbags the original compressor has quieted down and seems to be working perfectly (With the old bags its was running all the time). So my thinking is keep the old one on until it gives up then fit the new one.

Regards fitting the new Arnott bag....the top pinch bolt on both sides of my car were a nightmare to remove. The left i had to give up on and get the local indy to drill out after both ends snapped off. The right side i had some help from a m8 with acetylene. Took us 3 hours and cost me the 2 top control arms, plus i melted the air pipe. The Arnott bags are great thow and im going to replace the rears with Arnott.

The problem i have at the mo is with the front left (G78) wiring to the Xenon range system. I have a short or break in the wiring. Level control works fine, i just have the level warning on the dash + light level warning.
Hopefully ill have time this weekend to trace the wiring.

Off topic....can anyone suggest where to buy after market Allroad front break discs ?

    Cheers

regarding changing allroad front air bags, read this thread lots of usefull info, links to a full how to, total costs, tools required and our experiences. also tells you where to buy aftermarket bags from Arnott

    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=60746

have a read at it all but in short, plenty of WD40 into the top pinch bolt before hand, and 16 & 18mm cranked spaners is a good start!!

its not very difficult but stuck bolts could hold you back, let us know how you get on.

    Regarding Arnott airbags, I noticed their website has full installation instructions with pictures, very useful;

Yes its usefull but beware they fail to tell you to remove the lower ball joint to remove the lower bolt!!, also use this link below showing more thourough fitting instructions from a different forum member:
    http://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/217082.phtml

The Arnott product itself is excellent and i have not heard any complaints from anyone fitting them, Personally I would deal straight with arnott in the USA as they are cheaper than the guy on e-bay who must be buying them in from arnott, and dealing direct with Arnott they offer a lifetime warranty, although delivery might be a bit longer.

Ive noticed that Arnott also sell the air compressors NEW at $379.

If only I knew this before buying a not so new one of ebay, came in about the same price too!

I would not worry about your purchase......
yes Arnott do offer compressors but I believe no one on this forum has purchesed one (yet) we have only purchased and recommend the air bags from Arnott not the compressors.

I would suggest you did the right thing buying your compressor, although a gamble being 2nd hand, but the Arnott compressors are not a straight swap. They are not original parts so they need a wiring mod to suit the plugs on the car, which is no big deal but personally I would shy away from the arnott compressors until someone can advise 1st hand otherwise.

The compressors on offer from the german e-bay, link above, seem to be original continental (used on the allroad) and "supposedly" new so again seem to be the best bet for someone looking for a replacement compressor. won't be much more expensive than Arnott either if at all.

so to conclude: for Allroad Air bags head for Arnott USA

and for compressors you are on your own!! try E-bay , your local scrappy , Arnott or worst case and most expensive your Audi dealer !!

Hi, I also own an 2001 allroad with 170000 km on it, I experienced the same problems. I brought my car to an official audi repair station "garage van Haelst" in the town of Stekene (near Antwerp)
I thougt it was the pump, they said it was a computercable connecting the onboard computer with the compressor unit. They replaced the cable and charged me 700 euro. And...... The problem remainded. So then they repaced the pump (1400euro!!) and my allraod was healthy again!
But they did not give me back the 700 euro for the cable that was not the problem. Furthermore I let someone check the old pump. The whole unit was replaced but just a small part was broken (the pisiton of the pump) all the rest: el.motor drying unit etc were perfect.
So In conclusion. PROBLEMS? take pump out of car (4 bolts) replace only small moving piston part (less then 50 euro/40dollar) and reinstall unit in car. Save simpel and ...cheap

    Hi Andy,

The parts for the broken compressor can be obtained at any well stocked auto supply store. The compressor is a standard 12 volts unit as used in many trucks and automobiles. Take it apart en take it to the shop to sheck out the parts. I do not know if audi sells the compressor seperatly. I believe they only supply the whole unit at 1000eur is 1200 dollar the peice. So its well worth it to find the parts for the broken compressor.
    good luck
    kind regards Louis Verscheure

Just to resurect this thread, it would appear (last year) that spare parts for the suspension Compressor are available ian the netherlands but not here!

Has this situation changed in the last year? does anyone know a supplier of Pistons, etc for the Continental compressor?

To be able to replace just the parts that are worn, not the whole (hideously expensive) compressor seems like the right way to go...

    Bit more "green" too..
