    For anyone out there, contemplating doing the oil change, and like me, thought they were tough enough not to need a fabric strap wrench, you can't avoid it.... My Aussie ingenuity was no match for whomever tightened the damn thing last time... so have only done half an oil change....

    I like the idea of a hole cut in the engine cover though - that is defo happening next time the cover is off...

    Good for you Bruce- at last a guy with common sense.
    Use a BIG hole saw-- just in case you are off the mark a bit.

    Just a quick thanks to Big col for his excellent 'how to'. followed your instructions right down to buying a Pella 6000 last saturday and job was so easy. changed all 4 filters and oil and it took 45 mins. main wait was for Pella to extract all oil.I actually bought a strap filter remover which bust when i put it under strain i had to wrap the brocken strap round filter cover and then put my chain remover round that. it worked no prob and no damage. I bought the Pella from mailspeed marine @ warrington it cost me 25.99 (on offer normally 29.99) thanks once again
