    LOL.

I'm quite impressed with the V6 in the cab'. Obviously it isn't fair to compare it with the i6 3.2 M3 engine in the compact, but I had a 530i road car previously and the V6 compares very favourably imo.

It's difficult to judge the V6 properly in such a heavy 4WD car and it doesn't feel 'quite' as strong in the mid-range as the 530i, but at low revs it's very pleasant to use. Better MPG than I expected from the V6, too.

My only real 'criticism' of the 3.2 drivetrain is the gearing - there's a big step from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 6th are unnecessarily close imo. The 3rd to 6th gearing would be fine on a circuit and probably very useful for an autobahn bash, but with a 70 MPH limit it could use a shorter 3rd gear and would feel more relaxed for cruising with a taller 6th.

The A6 Tdi could use a shorter 2nd gear too - I find it a tad tiresome having to use 1st more often than I'd prefer, when in traffic/emerging etc. The A6 Tdi gearing is perfect otherwise tho, imo.

I have a 525 Tds estate too, that I use for towing & runs to the tip etc. It beggars belief that it's from the same generation of cars as the A6 Avant and has to be viewed as BMWs direct competitor for the A6 Tdi Avant. Even with its 6-pot inter-cooled Td, it's garbage compared to the A6 - awful to drive.

Which is the most appropriate section for 'technical' questions about A4s? (Big brakes etc.) There's some useful information on this forum, but it seems to be spread across different sections.

    Simon.

There is no reason not to have the best of both worlds.

As well as the Audi, i also drive an e39, and am about to buy an LPG'd e38 for wafting around in.

Not having to indicate is also a bonus.
