Hi, A few days back there was a really loud noise coming from the engine, a very loud rattling, then after 5 mins it slowly dies down!

Since then it has never been that bad but i'm sure i can still here something not right rattling away.

Here is a link to a v.short video of the noise:

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/xupa95

Would appreciatte anyone taking a look at the vid

Recently had cambelt and waterpump done (march/4 months ago)

Also, the mrs managed to pull the front bumper off after getting the under tray caught on the lip of a curb but i doubt that has anything to do with it

    cheers

Sounds harsh, hows the alternator belt and tensioners?

What does it sound like under around 1200rpm load?

    Rick

    Hi Rick,

The thing is when you are in the car you can't hear it at all, all seems normal, no warning lights and no loss of performance. It's only when you have the windows down and are next to a wall (or something for the sound to bounce off of) that you notice it (and obviously when the bonnet is open!)

I think it gets better when the engine has warmed up, but i could be imagining that also.

When you rev the engine you sort of hear a funny noise/rattle when it comes back down to idle.

I also get a noise when changing gear in 1st and 2nd mainly, but i'm not sure if that is releated to this noise as the changing gear noise has been present for about 4 months (someone told me that could be the Thrush racer or something?? )

~Thing is, with no lights or loss of performance i'm loathed to take it in to spend £££ and most garages tend to give you a blank look if the noise isn't glaringly obvious

Sounds similar to my problem https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...84937&posted=1

I can only just hear it in the car, a very very slight rattling.. but only because i know it's there. Like yours with the windows down it becomes apparent.

As i said in my thread- greenflag stated they reckon my problem is a cambelt pulley. I assume you had your pulleys replaced when the cambelt was done- or was it literally just a cambelt and water pump you had fitted?

If i rev my car it the rattling goes away but i get more of a clunking as it returned to idle where the rattling starts again. Some VW Audi specialist may be taking a quick look tomorrow so i'll let you know what he says.
