  1. Creaking Rear Suspension

Firstly thanks to this forum i managed to fix the wet carpet issue, http://www.weirdlittlebiscuit.com/passat/leak/index.htm I found this link in many postings, and therefore didn't have to post again on the issue.

Now to my next issue, and unfortunately this seems to be a little less clear cut as to what the problem could be, and therefore there does not seem to be a definitive 'how to' guide on how to resolve/identify the issue....hence the post!

The symptoms are when i bounce the rear suspension of the car, i get quite a lound creaking noise, and i notice it most when getting in and out of the car.

So essentially what I'm looking for is a 'how to' guide to diagnosing creaking suspension issue. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction?

    Thanks...

I could have asked an identical question as my 2004 Tdi Sport does exactly the same. Was going to just investigate and see what appeared to squeak but will see if any good advice comes from here......

Spray all the bushes, one at a time, with WD40. Test for creak after every bush. That should help you isolate the problem.

what I tend to do is just pull it up further, but that's when I park on inclines. On level ground I tend not to bother.

You may have to replace the hand brake cables to resolve it's strength I think, but I'm not entirely sure. I'm sure someone here will point you in the right direction

exactly the same thing happened to me last night. For a few months I've noticed the creaking noise then last night as I jumped in the motor I remembered reading this post. Took handbrake off and low and behold...problem fixed.
cheapest fix ever! god knows how much my local VW dealer would have charged for a diagnoses and fix.what is the betting they would have found something that would not have resembled the handbrake being the cause.
